Pownal Elementary School has had a long tradition of a vibrant and strong music program. Throughout the school year, there are many opportunities for Pownal students to take part in music. The following are what is offered for students:
Pownal Elementary School Band
The Pownal Elementary School Band is an ensemble of 4th and 5th graders which meet throughout the week for group lessons, as well as full band rehearsal on Fridays. All fourth and fifth grade students are encouraged to participate! Being part of a band ensemble is a great way to teach students the many benefits of collaboration. Students will perform during the winter concert in December as well as the spring concert in June. There may be different performance opportunities throughout the school year that Ms. Edwards will make students aware of!
Students are encouraged to practice their instruments at home at least 20 minutes a night. Only with consistent practice, will improvement happen! Playing a band instruments is a wonderful experience that teaches our students that hard work, and determination pays off!
We host a Band Information Night in early September each school year.
Pownal also has a tradition of hosting an annual spring musical. The musical is a production consisting entirely from students from Pownal Elementary and is bolstered by the more than generous volunteers of the Pownal community such as parents, grandparents, teachers, administrators and students. Traditionally, Pownal's musicals features 4th and 5th graders.
Students involved in the school musical learn about how to put on a major production, from rehearsing music, lines, and choreography, to set design, lighting, sound, costumes, and basic stage management. Parents and volunteers are also encouraged to be involved in the process of the musical as well.
